The Winter Suns

The Winter Suns was a public installation at Pier-17 in NYC deployed in December of 2017.

I was the head project manager, overseeing the rapid design, fabrication and deployment of the nearly one-hundred-thousand LED installation. I led a team of over 30 people on the deployment, and oversaw the maintenance throughout its three month display period.

The piece involved custom fabricated wood work, massive eight foot blown acrylic lenses, an extensive low voltage power system and a large custom distributed micro-controller system operating at incredibly high display frame-rates. The system was connected to three heat sensitive, motion tracking FLIR cameras, adding an incredible interactive element.
